Property in New Zealand
Property in New Zealand generally cost a little less than property in Europe . This could be down to the smaller population and a lower demand for houses.
The most expensive area to live is Auckland as most of the best paid jobs are in the area. Wellington is the next most expensive place to settle.
The national house price average in December 2006 was NZ$286,000 rising to NZ$291,500in January 2007. In Auckland prices did fall during the same period from $355,000 to $340,000.
Apartments can be as expensive as houses as they generally are located in the city centres and houses tend to be in the suburbs or country.
Most migrants decide to rent when they first arrive, this allows them to decide if they like the area and it gives them a chance to look around for a property to buy.
Check rental agreements to see what they cover and what the term of the contract is. Not all rental agreements will include your utilities. With the term of the agreement itself, make sure you don't sign up to a 12 month agreement if you are planning to buy or move within a few months.
